With its upright, columnar form cloaked in powder puff pink blossoms with small, dark centres, ‘Shosar’ is a stunning focal point for smaller spring gardens. This award winning (RHS) ornamental cherry tree erupts with an abundance of single, vibrant pink flowers before the emergence of the toothed green foliage that turns lovely shades of orange and red in autumn.
When siting your ornamental cherry, select a spot that is sheltered from strong winds to protect the delicate blossoms. Stake your new tree to anchor it while the roots establish. Water thoroughly at planting and keep the soil moist for the first year by watering regularly, especially during hot, dry spells. After planting, maintain a weed-free area around the base of the tree, and use a tree guard if rabbits or deer are an issue. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker, cutting back any dead, diseased, or crossing branches.
